The Race to the King is currently due to take place this year over the weekend of 19-20th June 2021, starting at Gaston Farm as it has done in previous years. There is still some uncertainty as to whether it will take place although the site is taking bookings.
Whilst the Parish Council is not involved in organising the event, which is run by Threshold Sports, it will continue to monitor the situation as the country emerges from lockdown to safeguard its residents.
There is of course concern regarding the large number of people heading to our small parish and anxiety around the possible spread of infection, in addition of course to the usual parking issues, albeit these will be relatively short-lived. If you would like to learn more about how the event will be managed to ensure that COVID-19 measures are effectively implemented, please visit the Threshold Sports website.
Whilst much of the focus would appear to be on protecting participants, this must be balanced with the safety and well-being of the residents of Slindon, and we will of course be liaising with the event organiser to share residents’ concerns and ensure that any event is run as safely as possible from everyone’s perspective.
Above all, please be assured that we continue to work on behalf of worried residents, and any announcements or developments will be published on the Parish Council website.
Update 11/6/21 – the start location for Race to the King on 19th and 20th June has changed and moved from Slindon to Goodwood Racecourse.
