Slindon Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan
At a meeting of the South Downs National Park Planning Committee on the 9th August the Park adopted the new Slindon Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP). This replaces the previous Conservation Area Statement and is a much more detailed assessment of that part of the village that is designated as a Conservation Area in the context of the parish as a whole.
The new CAAMP is a planning policy document that is referenced by the Parish Council when looking at future consultations from the SDNPA and when considering how to respond to planning applications. More importantly this document publicly sets out some of the major challenges that face the parish, how the council will work major landowners and the various local authorities to address them and how it would like to see new development and changes to existing properties managed.
The Conservation Area boundary has also been slightly extended, see pages 70 and 71 of the document. The Parish Council has worked closely with the National Park to complete this review which was led by Councillor Brimblecombe and former Chairman, Ann Watts. The council has been fortunate to have several councillors who were able to provide some detailed information which helped inform the review as well as input from the History Group and the National Trust. The document also benefited a piece of work by Mr Peter Watts
